Message from Antonia Folarin Schleicher,
Executive Director, NCOLCTL
Welcome to the on-line home of the National Council Of Less Commonly Taught Languages. We are the Teachers of Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Russian, Swahili, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Yoruba and many other languages which are important in this world but which are relatively unfamiliar to most Americans.
We have designed the website for anyone who is curious about the less commonly taught languages of this world, anyone who is now studying one of these languages or just might want to learn one in the future, and for those who teach these languages. As you explore the you will find information about NCOLCTL and its members, different languages and cultures, learning and teaching languages, and about language education policy issues.
We have also provided a means to exchange information and to communicate with us, and we sincerely hope that you will take the time to do so. In the future, as the site grows, we will add other services, all directed at making the languages of the world more accessible to Americans. Join us! Let us know what else we can do and what we can do better.
